Response of reinforced mortar-less interlocking brick wall under seismic loading

چکیده

Abstract Mortar-less construction with interlocking bricks has many advantages, such as improved efficiency and relatively low requirements on labour skills. Nevertheless, the seismic performance of brick structures is not well understood yet. In this paper, laboratory tests numerical modelling are carried out to investigate behaviour walls. Laboratory shaking table performed a scaled reinforced mortar-less wall. The response damage modes under in-plane loading investigated. A detailed model then generated validated testing data. Unlike conventional masonry wall that diagonal shear governs failure, exhibits rocking responses, whose mainly at two bottom corners Full-scale walls modelled compared concrete unit (CMU) bonded by mortar. Comparisons made between resistances influences ground motion intensities, vertical components excitations different time histories examined. It found higher resistance capacity than CMU Inter-brick friction main energy dissipation mechanism in Because response, component significantly insensitive velocity pulses motions due its high natural frequency.

Reinforced Concrete Wall Response under Uni- and Bi- Directional Loading

During an earthquake, structures are subjected to both horizontal and vertical shaking. Most structures are rather insensitive to variations in the vertical acceleration history and primary considerations are given to the impact of the horizontal shaking on the behavior of structures. In the laboratory, however, most component tests are carried out under uni-directional horizontal loading to si...

Effect of Mortar Type on the Seismic Response of Partially Grouted Reinforced Masonry Shear Walls

Since the establishment of ASTM standard C91, masonry cement mortars have become widely used for masonry construction in low to moderate seismic regions. However, the Masonry Standards Joint Committee Code prohibits the use of masonry cement mortars in lateral force resisting systems for structures that fall into Seismic Design Categories D, E, and F. The general objective of this study is to e...

New Product Design under Channel Acceptance: Brick-and-Mortar, Online-Exclusive, or Brick-and-Click

I n recent years, an increasing number of brick-and-mortar retailers have entered into the new brick-and-click era. Within this context, when a manufacturer presents a new product offering to a retailer, the ultimate decision is often made by the retailer regarding (1) whether to carry the new product, and (2) the channel outlet the product will be carried in (i.e., in-store only, online-exclus...

Behaviour of Masonry Wall Constructed using Interlocking Soil Cement Bricks

According to the masonry standard the compressive strength is basically dependent on factors such as the mortar strength and the relative values of unit and mortar strength. However interlocking brick has none or less use of mortar. Therefore there is a need to investigate the behavior of masonry walls using interlocking bricks. In this study a series of tests have been conducted; physical prop...
